01Getting started

Three steps, then ask your agent

You'll need one thing from your email provider: an app password, a separate password for apps like this one. Outlook skips this: you sign in with Microsoft.Three steps. Outlook needs only a sign-in.

  1. Create a free account

Microsoft, Google, Apple or an email link. Free covers 2 mailboxes, no card.Sign in your way. No card.

  2. Add postkeep to your agent app

In some apps, like Cursor, it's one click. In others, like Claude, you paste a link. Then the app asks you to sign in to postkeep. One click or a pasted link, then sign in.

  3. Ask your agent to connect your email

Your agent sends you a one-time link. On that page you sign in, or type your app password, so it stays out of the chat.A one-time link keeps your password out of the chat.

Then ask your agent“What needs a reply today?”

More on postkeep.dev

What does postkeep keep?

Your account details, your mailbox logins (app passwords and Microsoft sign-ins), stored encrypted, and a short log of new-mail alerts so they can be retried: 7 days, up to 1,000 per mailbox by default. Disconnect a mailbox and its login and alert log are deleted right away. The Privacy Policy has the full list.

How do I connect Gmail?

With a Google app password: a 16-digit code Google makes for apps like this one. It needs 2-Step Verification. Many work or school accounts, accounts under Advanced Protection or with security keys only, and accounts where an admin has turned app passwords off can't make one. You type it on a postkeep page, so it stays out of the chat. Signing in to postkeep with Google doesn't connect Gmail.

Is signing in the same as connecting my Gmail?

They're separate. Signing in with Microsoft, Google, Apple or an email link gets you into postkeep. Your agent connects mailboxes through a one-time link, where you type the mailbox's app password or sign in with Microsoft.

What happens at my plan's limit?

Your agent tells you how many mailboxes you're using and sends you a link to add more. Connections you've started but not finished count too. Your bill stays the same unless you upgrade.

Who decides what my agent sends?

You do, in your agent app. Apps like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code can ask you before each email goes out; you choose this in the app's tool settings. postkeep sends what your agent asks it to, from your own address, and counts every send on your Usage page. What goes out is yours, like mail you send yourself.

Do I have to copy a password or code into my agent app?

Usually not. You add postkeep in one click (Cursor, VS Code) or by pasting your postkeep link (Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and others). Then the app asks you to sign in to postkeep. A few apps can't sign in. For those, you can make an access key in Settings: it works like a password for that one app.

Is postkeep open source?

The mail engine is open source under MIT, and Cloud runs that same engine, so you can move to self-hosting whenever you like. Accounts, billing and the other hosted parts are run by us. Engine fixes go back to the open-source project.

What if postkeep Cloud shuts down?

The mail engine is open source under MIT, and Cloud runs that same engine, so you can run it on your own machines whatever happens to Cloud.
